Envriomental Facts Care of Natures Child

A: Did you know that 2.2 million disposable nappies are put in landfills every day?
Did you know that a disposable nappy takes 150 years to break down and when it is put into a
plastic bag that adds another 100 years to the breakdown process?
Did you know that 1 average disposable nappy has 16 different chemicals in it that are
absorbed straight into the baby's skin because the genitals are the thinnest skin on the human
    body?
Did you know traditional Cotton is sprayed numerous times with toxic and persistent chemical
pesticides and fertilizers? Organic cotton is natural and isn’t sprayed with anything!
Are you willing to do what it takes to make sure our beautiful planet is still intact for all of the
    future’s beautiful children?
    Testimonials
“I would just like to let you know how fantastic the Nature's Child Bottom Balm is. My child suffers from
eczema during the dry winter months and when the cold weather started this year, his skin was covered
in red irritations all over. Each night after his bath I covered him in the balm and after only three nights his
skin was completely clear !! Being a completely natural product I have no concerns about using it even
on his face, so it has been great for the red teething cheeks and dry wind burns. I would highly
recommend this product - I think it is fantastic !!”

Being a mum and a business owner I have found the staff at Nature's Child extremely helpful and a
delight to deal with. With their help and range of earth friendly products I know I am giving my baby the

"I have now been using the nappy and the dri liners for a couple of days and have found the switch
back to full time cloth to be so much easier than I expected. We have 5 children ranging from 12 down
to 1 and I had used cloth for our eldest daughter and our twins, but when number 4 came along I gave
in and succumbed to the disposable! Time is so precious and I was worried that the cloth nappies would
be just one more item on my job list. I am happy to say that I love them, I do find as my customer
complained, that they are not enough for night and even during the day I am using an extra booster.
Kurt is and always has been a heavy wetter though and it is easy enough to adapt them to suit. Thank
you for your assistance and thank you for making these products available"

This will confirm how happy I am with the Bottom Balm for the rash on my face. I have been using the
cream for the past month on a rash which appears around my nose, above my top lip and sometimes
onto the right cheek. This rash is caused by a persistent infection in the sinus cavity which antibiotics only
clear for a short time and then reappears. The infection is one of the pseudomonas family. I have tried
several creams recommended by my local GP - Dr Oscar Serralach - with little effect and he then
suggested the Bottom Balm which he and his wife use on their young son for nappy rash. He felt this was
    worth a try.
I apply the cream every night before going to bed and this protects the skin from any seepage which
could occur from the nose during the night. I do at times also use it during the day if necessary as I do
not wear any kind of make up other than lipstick.

Q: Aren’t Cloth Nappies a lot of hard work?
Aren’t Cloth Nappies a lot of hard work?

A: Modern cloth nappies can be done up with Velcro, snaps or snappi’s making them just as easy as a disposable without at those yucky chemicals. You don’t need to soak or boil then or even take a refresher course in origami. Caring for your nappies is simply a matter of getting into a routine. Yes they are a bit more work than disposables, (not much) but they are a whole lot more satisfying (Not to mention the cuteness factor). See How to Wash Cloth Nappies for more information.

Q: How many nappies will I need?
How many nappies will I need?

A: The amount of nappies you will need depends on how often you want to wash, as well as how old your baby is. As a rough guide, you will need 1 or 2 days worth of nappies (depending on how often you wash) plus an extra 5 for use while the nappies are washing and drying.
Therefore you will need roughly 15-25 nappies for a baby aged 0-3months, 12-19 nappies for a baby aged 3-12 months and 10-15 nappies for a baby aged 12-30 months. These figures are based on washing every 1-2 days. Please adjust accordingly to your laundry habits.
Although I recommend washing you nappies at least every 3 days to reduce the possibility of smells and promote good hygiene in your laundry.

Q: Which type of nappies should I Use?
Which type of nappies should I Use?

A: This is a hard one as it really comes down to personal choice. Pockets and AIO’s are great for out and about and quick nappy changes. And you can’t go past a good fitted for night time.
Check out our Cloth Nappy Information page on the different types of nappies you can get. It really is all just trial and error. Good Luck and Enjoy.

Q: But it looks like Cloth Nappies are just as expensive as disposables. Are they?
But it looks like Cloth Nappies are just as expensive as disposables. Are they?

A: In the beginning Cloth nappies can seem expensive. The initial outlay for your cloth nappy stash is the main expense. The outlay can be anywhere from $200 (for flat terry squares) up to $1500 for a complete fitted nappy system. Most people fall somewhere in the middle of this, and there is also the added bonus that the nappies can be re-used for future children or sold on second hand to recoup your costs.
The average baby goes through about 6,000 disposable nappies over 2 ½ to 3 years at a cost of between $2500-3000 or more depending on the brand. If you also included in your washing powder and electricity for your washing machine and exclusive tumble drying you are looking at about an additional $200 per year. Even if you had a cloth nappy system with all the bells and whistles and used your dryer (the sun is free), you would still save money, especially if reusing for future children.
But really the cost of your cloth nappy system is entirely up to you. You are the one that will choose what suits you and your family the best and how you wash and dry your nappies.

Q: Won’t the Nappy bucket stink out my house?
Won’t the Nappy bucket stink out my house?

A: Won’t the Nappy bucket stink out my house?
As long as you always make sure that the lid to the nappy bucket is secured and the you dispose of any solids in the toilet where it is meant to go, then there is no reason for there to be any smells coming from your nappy bucket. Many people believe this from the days of soaking nappies and those horrible plastic pants.
If you are worried about any smells you can purchase items that will help with this also, check out the Nappy Accessories section for these products.
Also remember and clean out your nappy bucket atleast once a week with hot water and you could also use some vinegar.
Cloth Nappies Buckets will always smell better than a wheelie bin full of disposables the day before bin day!!!
